THE 1-2 3 DICIPLINE METHOD.

Updated: 6 days ago

The 1-2-3 Discipline Method is a straightforward and effective approach to managing children's behavior. This technique helps establish clear expectations and consequences in a calm and consistent manner. Here is how it works:

1. CLEAR COUNTING:

When a child misbehaves, calmly state “That’s 1” to indicate the first warning. This signals to the child that their behavior is unacceptable without escalating the situation.

2. SECOND WARNING:

If the misbehavior continues, say “That’s 2.” This serves as a second warning and reinforces that they are on the verge of facing a consequence.

3. CONSEQJENCE:

consequence. This could be a time-out, loss of privileges, or another appropriate response. It is essential that the consequence is clear and consistent.

KEY COMPONENTS:

  • CALMESS: Maintain a calm and composed demeanor throughout the process. This helps prevent power struggles and ensures the child understands the seriousness of the situation.

  • CONSISTENSY: Apply the method consistently across different situations to reinforce understanding. Consistency helps children learn the cause-and-effect relationship between their behavior and the consequences.
