BACK TO SCHOOL

Beginning a new school year is an exciting time filled with new goals, challenges, and opportunities. A successful year depends on strong collaboration among parents, teachers, and students. By working together, they can help students feel supported, motivated, and prepared to do their best.

For families of new students, the start of the school year may initially feel overwhelming.

However, becoming familiar with the school’s routines and expectations can make the transition much easier.

Parents should know the name of the school, their child’s teacher and grade level, the school’s telephone number, and the appropriate bus number.

Parents are expected to provide the school with an email address and download the Parent Square application on their phone. The application allows parents and teachers to communicate in their preferred languages by translating messages automatically.

Parents should become familiar with school policies and procedures. Visitors are

permitted only in the school office. If a child must be picked up early for any reason, parents should notify the office that morning. For students who ride the bus, the office must be contacted before 2:00 p.m.

Parents should inform the teacher of any circumstances in the child’s life that may affect the school day. If a child is ill or is absent, parents should message the teacher or call the school that morning.

Students may have no more than five unexcused absences during the school year. Additional absences require a doctor’s note; otherwise, the student may be reported for truancy, which can result in consequences for both the student and the parents.

Establish a routine that encourages your child to share school notices and forms with you on the day they are received. It is also good practice to check your child’s backpack at least once a week. Ask your child regularly about homework and establish a consistent time and place for completing it.

Ensure that your child goes to bed at a reasonable time each school night so they can wake up rested and ready for the next day.

Talk with your child about new friends and the activities they enjoy together. Contact the teacher promptly if you notice significant changes in your child’s behavior.

Whenever possible, attend classroom and school activities. Seeing parents actively involved in the school community helps children feel supported and builds confidence.

Working together from the beginning of the school year also encourages positive habits that can continue throughout the year. With encouragement from their families and a commitment to their own learning, students can become more confident, responsible, and successful.

Have a wonderful and successful school year!
